Civil Society Involvement

What role for civil society organisations?

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) played an important role in the first International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding meeting in Dili. During this meeting and as a result of a Fast Talk consultative process, facilitated by Interpeace, civil society presented a number of key points, many of which were included in the conference outcomes and in the Dili Declaration, which recognizes the need to include civil society in the future work of the dialogue. Building on this positive engagement, the International Dialogue Secretariat launched a call for applications for a CSO Focal Point to continue the engagement with CSOs within the framework of the International Dialogue.

Know more about civil society’s participation in the Dili meeting.

The Civil Society Advisory Group

Interpeace has set up a Civil Society Advisory Group that serves as a flexible group of organisations on which the International Dialogue can draw on for inputs into its working structures (Steering Committee, Working Groups, Global Meeting). Special attention is given to ensuring an adequate participation of civil society from fragile countries.

Civil Society Liason Representative

Interpeace has been selected by the International Dialogue Secretariat to be the Civil Society Liaison Representative. Interpeace will ensure a consultative, representative and accountable participation of civil society in the various International Dialogue mechanisms.

Civil society representatives have participated in each working group meeting and in the Second Global Meeting of the International Dialogue in Monrovia in June 2011. Interpeace, as civil society focal point, will also participate in the Steering Group of the International Dialogue as civil society representative. The views presented by civil society representatives in these different fora are based on consultations with the broader civil society prior to each meeting.
